If you want to get into the Halloween spirit but can’t stomach slasher flicks and find yourself wide-eyed in bed after watching anything spooky, try on these scaredy-cat friendly movies for size. Note: Although most of these movies are okay for adult wimps and come with a PG rating, some are PG-13 and definitely aren’t for little kids, namely The Witches, Edward Scissorhands and Return to Oz which have some creepy scenes.

Casper (1995)
James (Bill Pullman) and his daughter Kat (Christina Ricci) move into a spooky mansion which is already occupied by Casper, the friendly ghost and his three three mischievous ghost uncles.

Double, Double, Toil and Trouble (1993)

Twins Kelly and Lyn (Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen) are bummed when they discover they are going to lose their family home so they devise a plan to bring back their wealthy Aunt Sophia (Cloris Leachman) who was banished into a mirror by her evil twin sister Agatha (Cloris Leachman).

Max (Omri Katz) and his little sister Dani (Thora Birch) move to Salem and after a trip to the local haunted house with Max’s new crush Allison (Vinessa Shaw), the trio accidentally bring the evil and long-dead Sanderson witches (Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy) back to life.

Edward (Johnny Depp), an unfinished scientific experiment, has scissors for hands and lives alone in a dark hilltop mansion until one day, Avon calls at his door. Humanitarian Peg (Dianne West) brings him into her suburban home where he falls in love with her daughter Kim (Winona Ryder).

The Witches (1990)
Luke (Jasen Fisher) discovers a witch convention in the hotel he’s staying at while on holiday with his grandmother Helga (Mai Zetterling). The Grand High Witch (Anjelica Huston) plans to turn children into mice and Luke must try and stop her and her evil group of square-footed witches.
